Land first, then people, then money
We rank the effects in that order, and we count each one only once.
01 Environment
Less methane, less wood cut
Waste no longer rots in the open: its methane is captured and burned instead of escaping.
Purified biogas replaces part of the firewood and charcoal burned for cooking.
Digestate, once checked, can go back to the land instead of polluting water: the loop closes, a circular economy on the scale of a single site.
03 Economy
Two costs fewer
The site can cut what it pays to dispose of its waste.
It can buy less fuel for cooking.
No double counting
- Replaced wood is counted under environment, as a quantity. The economy line only counts the money the site stops spending; the two are never added together.
- Avoided emissions combine methane not released and fuel replaced: avoided wood is not counted a second time.
- An effect that has not been measured is not published.
